Josephine Pittard Smith, 83, of Roanoke Rapids, died Monday, August 9, 2010.

Mrs. Smith, a native of Halifax County, was the daughter of the late Andrew David Fishel and Rosezettie Green Pittard. She was the widow of the late Willard Lawrence Smith. She was, also, preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Pittard Elias, and two brothers, David Fishel Pittard and Albert Justice “Bobby” Pittard.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Dianne S. Hamby and her husband, Bill, of Roanoke Rapids; her sister, Hattie P. Alston of Halifax; her granddaughter, Melissa Jo “Missy” Savage Moseley and her husband, Jason, of Roanoke Rapids; and her great-grandchild, Adrienne Moseley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Sidney Collins officiating. Burial will fellow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids on Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
